Piers Taylor will be talking about his reflections on lockdown, why architecture and architectural practice needs to become more resilient and free itself from its relationship with power and money, why urban conglomerations are still our best hope, why we need to separate food production from agriculture, why institutions don’t work, why we are all still citizens of everywhere and much more. Trailer for a new film by Jim Stephenson and Laura Mark focussing on Invisible Studio and Piers Taylor
Piers Taylor is an architect and founder of Invisible Studio and the annual Studio in the Woods Workshop. He will talk about 20 years of retreat from mainstream architectural practice and how he has developed a mode of practice from a working 100 acre woodland with a network of collaborators internationally, none of whom are bound by the confines of flat screen plan-of-work cultures. He will also talk about how ‘making’ with amateurs and negotiating the contingencies that emerge from real-time interactions have opened a new avenue for him within the most orthodox of professions.

MULTISTORY* is a student and alumni led guest lecture programme series at Canterbury School of Architecture, University for the Creative Arts, seeking to invite architects, designers, writers, curators, photographers and artists to speak about their work.
This year, under new curatorship, we have chosen the theme of Futures: Industry to fuel discussion on how the profession is adapting and innovating to cope with changes in climate,
society, and procurement. We aim to ask ‘what kind of diversifications are emerging, growing and changing the wider industry, and how can we participate?’
MULTISTORY* lectures run from 1800 – 1900 on Thursday evenings in the Architecture Foyer at UCA Canterbury, unless otherwise stated.
MULTISTORY* is free and open to all.
